SHILLONG: Police have arrested the former principal of RB Anoochand School — Hardayal Singh Bharaj and his wife Meena Bharaj for duping one Ravikand Kumar of Laitumkhrah of Rs 3.5 lakh under assurance of giving him a job in Indian Railways.

Taking to newsmen here on Wednesday, East Khasi Hills police chief M Kharkrang informed that both the husband and wife were arrested from their Happy Valley residence in the city.

According to him, the lady, who was forwarded to a city Court on August 11, has been remanded in four-day police custody. “The husband has been admitted to the Shillong Civil Hospital after he complained of sickness,” Kharkrang.

The duo had promised Kumar a job in Railways and they were paid an amount of Rs 3.5 lakh, he said, adding “but till date no appointment letter has been received by the complainant”.

During the course of the investigation, Kharkrang said that police managed to establish that the duo in the past had duped several others by promising jobs in various Central government offices. He said that the two were also found to be involved in providing fake certificates and fake appointment letters.

Police seized several copies of fake marksheets, admit cards, transfer certificates, migration certificates, besides Rs. 55,500 in cash from their possession.
