SHILLONG: KHADC Deputy Chairman Pyniaid Sing Syiem has slammed Motor Transport Inspector of Police Reserve, Pynhun Syiem, for misbehaving with him when he had gone to report about the inability of the police to arrange food for drivers of the vehicles which have been requisitioned for patrolling duties in view of the 48-hour bandh called by the HNLC.

“I was informed by some of the drivers that they did not get any food despite being on patrolling duty since early morning,” Syiem said, adding that he went to meet the official (Syiem) to discuss the issue.

“He informed me that food was not included in the bill for hiring of the vehicle. When I requested the officer to allow the drivers to have their food, Syiem rudely replied that he would not release the drivers to go and have their food,” the Deputy Chairman said.

He, later, called East Khasi Hills SP M Kharkrang and informed him of the problem faced by the drivers.

The SP replied that he had instructed that food should be cooked for all the drivers who are deputed for patrolling duty with the police.

While strongly criticizing the behaviour of the officer, the KHADC Deputy Chairman said, “If this is the way he behaves with an elected public representative, I do not know what would be his attitude towards the general public.”

“In the near future, it would be better for the police to use only Government vehicles if they cannot meet the basic needs of the drivers of hired vehicles,” he added.
