TURA: Two members of a criminal gang that was involved in a botched kidnapping operation in Tikrikilla region have been caught by villagers from Rongram market, near Tura, on Monday.

Villagers from Jangrapara who had come to Rongram market on business related work spotted two members of a gang that had been involved in an abduction bid in their area last month. They alerted the locals of Rongram market about the presence of the two suspects and a mob soon surrounded and caught the duo.

The accused were handed over to Rongram police outpost where they continued to maintain their innocence until villagers identified them as part of the Jackie Marak gang which had tried to abduct a Muslim trader from Jangrapara weekly market.

Last month, a five member gang of kidnappers entered the weekly market and tried to abduct a trader at gunpoint when the public attacked them. The angry mob lynched to death Jackie Marak while the four other gang members fled for their lives.

On Monday, gang members Amson Marak of Damal Asim and Tison Sangma of Mengotchiggre were moving suspiciously around Rongram market when they were spotted by Jangrapara villagers leading to their capture.
