SHILLONG: KHADC Chief Executive Member (CEM) Ardent Miller Basaiawmoit has welcomed the offer of the proscribed HNLC to enter a bilateral ceasefire agreement with Government and at the same time urged the outfit not to give up its struggle.
“The outfit has taken a right decision which will ensure peace and normalcy in the State. But I will like to urge the members of the group to continue their struggle for the overall interest of the indigenous tribes,” Basaiawmoit said while addressing a press conference here on Tuesday.
Recalling that he had made a similar remark during a public meeting at Motphran on December 31, 1999, the CEM said that he on several occasion in the State Assembly urged the State Government to invite the HNLC for dialogue.
“This is not the first time that the HNLC has come up with such an offer. But due Government’s adamant attitude things did not materialize in the past,” Basaiawmoit said.
Meanwhile, official sources informed that the state government is on the job to examine the recent offer made by the HNLC to enter into a ‘bilateral ceasefire agreement’. “We are on the job to ascertain the veracity of the request from the outfit as seen in the media and accordingly after proper verification and due diligence the government will react,” an official said.
