Umiam project gets a rest

SHILLONG: With Leshka Hydel project attaining maximum rated generation capacity of 120 MW, the MeECL has stopped generating power from Umaim for the time being.

“Umiam is not generating power for the last few months as we are getting 120 MW from Leshka”, additional chief secretary in-charge power B K Dev Verma told reporters on Tuesday.

The recent rain has also brought respite to the power crisis in the state. Moreover, the rain has also increased the water level at Umiam which currently stands at 3205 feet. The actual capacity of the dam is 3220 feet.
