SHILLONG: After a long drawn legal battle, the High Court of Meghalaya has finally granted relief to Md Suleiman, Mutawali Haji Elahi Baksh Wakf Estate in removing all structures erected over the estate at Sweeper Lane, Bara Bazar.

The High Court, in its judgment passed recently, directed one Md. Tayaib to remove the temporary structure constructed on the Municipal Holding No. 3 and Ward No. 17 within seven days, failing which the Meghalaya Urban Development Authority, has been given liberty to take all necessary steps to remove the structure.

Some of the occupants– Abida Begum, Sabir, Babra Sohtun, Rosa Khongthaw, Ajmal Khongthaw and Deepak Agarwal– claiming to be the tenants of the temporary structures filed a review petition before the High Court against the earlier decision. The review petition was, however, rejected by the Court.

Aggrieved parties now are left with the option of approaching the Supreme Court.
