Football c’ship for the intellectually disabled

NONGPOH: Meghalaya on Monday registered its first victory in the Unified Football Championship organized by the Special Olympics Bharat in Chennai.
The State team, represented by Lyntijam Special School, beat Punjab 1-0. Synsharlang Mawlong scored the winner for Meghalaya in the 10th minute.
The first Unified Football Championship is a five-a-side tournament being organized with an aim to promote social inclusion for those with intellectual  disabilities. Unified Sports joins people with and without intellectual disabilities on the same platform. Out of the five players in each side, three are intellectually diasbled while the other two are intellectually normal.
The championship was inaugurated by Tamil Nadu Sports Minister S Sundarrayan in the presence of Special Olympics Bharat CEO, A. Devzel on Monday.
