SHILLONG: The Mawlai units of both the KSU and the FKJGP have raised concern over the problem of traffic congestion caused by trucks waiting for their turns to load and unload goods at the Food Corporation of India (FCI) godown at Mawlai Nongmali.
“The trucks are being parked unsystematically along the road outside the FCI godown which leads to major traffic congestion causing huge problem to the general public. The road where the trucks are parked is a very busy one since it is an important route which connects NEHU and Polo with Mawlai Mawroh,” the KSU and FKJGP stated in a representation submitted to East Khasi Hills acting Deputy Commissioner Cyril Diengdoh here on Monday.
The two NGOs also strongly objected to the presence and plying of fourteen-wheeler trucks in the area where there are large numbers of pedestrians, most of all young school students attending nearby schools like Shullai Progressive School and Meghalaya Police Public School, among others.
“The Dorbar Shnong of Mawlai Nongmali has written several times to the Shillong Traffic Police informing them of the situation and requesting assistance to regulate the flow of traffic. There has been no constructive response from the concerned department so far,” the two NGOs said.
