SHILLONG: Police arrested one person identified as Gopi Nath Das from Guwahati who allegedly duped city resident Karuna Ghosh, a contractor by profession, of rs. 20 lakh last year.

Ghosh informed that he required an amount of Rs.2 crore for a certain project and that was the time when CID Inspector Anjan Chakraborty informed him about a firm from Kolkata which could provide a loan of Rs.1 crore at an interest of 14 per cent but he had to pay a processing fee of Rs.20 lakh.

Ghosh accordingly went to Kolkata and there Anjan Chakraborty introduced him to the owner of Global Engineering Development Corporation, Gopi Nath Das, and accordingly Rs.19.50 lakh was paid to the company as the processing fees.

After some days, Ghosh received two cheques of Rs.50 lakh each from the company but both the cheques bounced.

SP (City) Vivek Syiem confirmed that Gopi Nath Das has been arrested and sent to judicial custody but was admitted at the hospital after he complained of medical problems.
