RESUBELPARA: North Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner W. Khyllep recently convened a meeting of the District Water Management and Preservation Committee to ensure sufficient availability of water in the district for various purposes.

Keeping in mind the increasing demand for water supply in Resubelpara in particular and North Garo Hills District in general, the Deputy Commissioner entrusted all the Nokma in the district to identify and preserve the water-catchment areas in their respective Aoking lands.

The Nokma of Aodokgre, Rongokegre, Bangsi Aoga, Kharkutta, Jambal, Gokolgre, Remgre, Rongrong and Meogam Aoking had already identified the water-catchment areas within their respective jurisdiction and also sought the intervention of the district administration in controlling rampant clearing of jungle by the individuals with vested interests.

It may also be mentioned that in order to preserve the catchment areas, water bodies, streams and rivers, the Deputy Commissioner had already issued prohibitory orders to prevent rampant felling of trees, unrestricted rearing of cattle in catchment areas, washing of vehicles in the rivers and streams and random collection of sands, stones, etc.
