Shillong: Chief Minister Mukul Sangma has said that the Financial Inclusion Scheme of the State Government has enable farmers to upscale their produce.
“We have created lay-by markets and allotted stalls for farmers to sell their produce. We have also started fruit juice processing units where vending machines using food safety practices could serve instant seasonal fruit juices to tourists and travellers,” said Sangma on Thursday
The Chief Minister said that alongside the stalls, the vendors would also have the facility to store the produce that they are unable to sell on a particular day. “Instead of selling their produce in a disorganised manner as is happening along the Shillong-Guwahati highway, the lay-by markets would enable farmers to display their produce in a more attractive way. This is how the Financial Inclusion Scheme has enable women to use their seed money productively,” he told this correspondent.
Sangma said that on becoming Prime Minister, Narendra Modi looked at the schemes presented by all states and picked on the best ones. He said this Financial Inclusion Scheme was exclusively designed by the Meghalaya Government and Modi has made it a nation-wide scheme with modifications.
