Cracks in ARPA

SHILONG: Fissures have surfaced in ruling coalition -All Regional Parties Alliance (ARPA) – in KHADC with UDP demanding change of leadership.

“We have decided to demand the change of leadership. We are unhappy with the style of functioning of the present CEM Ardent Miller Basaiawmoit,” UDP MDC and EM in-charge of Mining and Geology, Donkupar Sumer told newsmen after a Parliamentary Party meeting of UDP here on Thursday.

He said that UDP would ask HSPDP, which is leading the alliance, to elect a new leader.

“We would leave it to the wisdom of the HSPDP leadership to elect a new leader in replace of Basaiawmoit,” Sumer said.

The EM in-charge of Mining and Geology said that in the last few months they tried their best to adapt to the dictatorial attitude of the Basaiawmoit for the sake of the stability of the present Executive Committee (EC).

“We have been sidelined by the present CEM. He (Basaiawmoit) would never bother to inform us about the decisions which he takes. All the MDCs of the party feel insulted by this kind of behaviour of the CEM,” Sumer said.

He said that it was now left to the HSPDP leadership to take a decision on a new leader “to ensure that the alliance completes the present term.”

UDP is going to submit a letter to the leader of ARPA (Basaiawmoit) and secretary Latiplang Kharkongor and to all the Parliamentary Party leaders of both HSPDP and KHNAM on Friday.

“We would wait for the response to our demand for the change leadership before deciding our next course of action. We have decided not to give any timeframe. But we would want that it should be done immediately,” Sumer added.
