TURA: Many of the passengers on the ill-fated Air bus travelling to Shillong were looking forward to the beginning of a bright future but the tragedy has shaken them all.
A Tura Government College staffer working in the library section, Odito Hajong, was travelling to Shillong with his wife in the Air Bus when his life was snuffed out in an instant by the tragic accident. His wife, Rashmi Hajong, had been due to appear for a job interview in the state capital. She is now in critical condition as doctors fight to save her life.
One of the injured girls was travelling to join a computer course in Shillong in the hope of making a better life for the future. She remains seriously injured and under medication. Her younger companion seated alongside her had been eagerly awaiting the trip to Shillong to meet her grandparents. She remains in agonising pain from the injuries caused by the accident.
“I don’t know what happened as I was just dozing off but it looked as though the brakes of the bus had failed. The bus was speeding,” revealed one of the injured passengers on condition of anonymity.
