SHILLONG: The National Building Construction Corporation (NBCC) will soon float a tender to invite bidders for construction of the new market complex in Polo.
According to a senior official, the NBCC, which is the implementing agency for the project, recently held a meeting with the Urban Affairs department on the matter.
“We need to have two more sittings to complete certain formalities before we float the tender,” the senior official said here on Sunday.
According to the official from the Urban Affairs department, the Union Ministry of Urban Development and Poverty Alleviation had allotted the project to the NBCC.
“The Urban Affairs department will not be involved in implementing the project. Its role will be restricted to monitoring the project which would include looking into the utilization of the funds,” the official informed.
While informing that Rs 23 crore has been earmarked for the project, the senior official said the Ministry will not revise the fund allocation.
“We would have to find funds through other sources in case of cost escalation cost of the project,” the official added.
The Government heaved a sigh of relief after the Shillong Municipal Board (SMB) and the East Khasi Hills district administration demolished several shops in Polo Market in accordance with the High Court of Meghalaya verdict passed in favour of the State Government on April 24 last paving way for the construction of the new market complex.
