NONGSTOIN: The indefinite hunger strike called by the AWKHDSC Passed 2010 at Nongstoin was suspended on Tuesday following the Government’s letter to the Association that revalidated the DSC results of 2010.

The letter was faxed from B. Rymmai, Under Secretary, Govt. of Meghalaya to the office of the Deputy Commissioner, stating that the Government had decided to extend the validity of the DSC merit list 2010 till January 2, 2015.

Extra Assistant Commissioner, S. Warjri, met the agitators and informed them of the development on Monday evening following which the agitators suspended their hunger strike.

Warjri informed the agitators that a copy of the letter would be handed over to them soon.

The order extended the validity of the merit list of the posts of Gram Sevak, Tracer, Sectional Assistant and LDA cum Typist until January 2, 2015.

The AWKHDSC Passed 2010 however stated that only half of their demand has been fulfilled as they had also placed the demand that appointment to the posts should be made within the validity period.

The Association also stated that they have called off their hunger strike with the faith that the Government would fulfill their demand before the end of the year.

The Association has also demanded that appointment should also be provided to the candidates from West Khasi Hills.

The AWHKDSC Passed 2010, meanwhile, has thanked the four NGOs – WYF, WYWC, WPM and HPSO, former MDC of Nongstoin, N. Nongdkhar, sitting Nongstoin MDC L.G. Nongsiej, Doctors and staff of Civil Hospital Nongstoin and the legislators of West Khasi Hills who had extended their help during the agitation.
