SHILLONG: The State Government has asked people of the State to denounce the 12-hour bandh call by ANVC-B.

A statement issued here on Wednesday said that the State Government, taking serious note of the situation in Garo Hills, had called a meeting with the MLAs of Garo Hills to work out effective steps to bring back normalcy in the militant-infected region.

“The Government would like to reiterate its firm commitment to maintain law and order at all costs and to ensure that the security of its citizen is not compromised in any way,” the statement said.

The statement appealed to the public in general and the Government employees in particular not to pay any heed to the unreasonable bandh call and to come out as they would on any normal day and carry on with their daily activities without any fear or apprehension of reprisals.

The statement further reiterated the Government’s commitment to deal with such calls with a firm hand in keeping with its Constitutional obligation to ensure peace and a secure environment to all the citizens of the State.

It may be mentioned that ANVC-B has given a call for a dawn-to-dusk bandh (5 am to 5 pm) in Garo Hills region on September 4, demanding the Central Government’s intervention to restore peace in the troubled region of the Garo Hills.
