NONGSTOIN: The Khasi Students’ Union, Mawshynrut Circle on Wednesday met the District Medical & Health Officer (DM&HO), West Khasi Hills, Dr. H. Nongkhlaw, and demanded upgradation of Riangdo CHC from a 30-bedded one to a 50-bedded centre.

The KSU stated that the CHC was congested with patients who were admitted at the health centre having to stay outside or on the verandah due to lack of beds.

“We demand increase in the number of beds at the health centre so that patients do not have to stay in the verandah of the hospital and that the daily challenge of congestion can be solved,” KSU said.

The KSU also lamented that Dr. Fredy Nongkynrih (Dentist) who was posted in Riangdo CHC had not attended to his duties for almost three years.

The KSU asked the government to take action against the doctor and appoint a local doctor who can serve the public.

The KSU also wanted scrapping of the transfer order of Dr. Z. Marak who has served in the area for almost ten years and was well acquainted with the problems of the people.
