NONGSTOIN: Pursuing the much awaited Nongstoin Urban Water Supply Scheme (NUWSS), members of Synjuk ki Nongshynshar Shnong, KSU, FKJGP and the WYF of Nongstoin met PHE Chief Engineer S.K. Sun, Additional Chief Engineer and representatives from Pantia Constructions Co. Pvt. Ltd., in Shillong.

Sun asserted that the project, to be implemented by Pantia Construction Company, would be underway within the current year. He also mentioned that the pipes for the project had already been dropped at the respective sites. He informed that a total sum of Rs.9 crore had been paid to the firms that had transported the pipes to Nongstoin.

Sun also urged the people of Nongstoin to be patient as the scheme was a massive one and involved meticulous planning. He said once the scheme was operational, the water woes of the people of Nongstoin and adjoining villages would be taken care of.

It may be mentioned that the NUWSS has gone through much controversies and obstacles.

Much hue and cry was raised before the tendering process for the project was floated. While some had complained that the total amount of Rs.134 crore was not being mentioned in the tender notice despite sanction, others cried foul play in various aspects of the project.
