SHILLONG: All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary in-charge Meghalaya Luizinho Faleiro has said the demand for removal of Mukul Sangma as Chief Minister will be decided by Congress president Sonia Gandhi.
“I am not the authority. I am here today because the AICC president wanted. The Congress president is the supreme leader and she takes the final decision,” the former Goa Chief Minister told reporters after attending a meeting of Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee here on Friday.
“This is democracy, and in a democratic set up and in a democratic organisation like Congress, there are enough mechanisms to discuss problems, to thrash out the problems so that we work together in harmony.” the AICC leader said.
Reacting to a query on former chief minister SC Marak, who had asked AICC to send an impartial leader to assess the political situation in the state, Faleiro said that he had been trained to respect elderly people and therefore he would refrain from commenting anything on Marak.
The MPCC chief DD Lapang, who was present in the press meet, said that the leadership issue would be taken up at the highest level of AICC.
“In big families, there are always quarrels but we will not burn our house,” Lapang said.
Meanwhile, the MPCC meeting discussed several issues pertaining to the party and the meeting discussed on the ways and means to strengthen the organization in the state.
Faleiro said that he was impressed and inspired by the suggestions put forward by leaders on several matters.
The meeting also discussed the law and order situation in Garo Hlls, development of the state, membership drive, revival of the party at grassroot level, new publicity committee and others.
