Mendipathar-Dudhnoi rail line gets safety clearance
SHILLONG: After getting the mandatory safety clearance from the Commission of Railway Safety, much- awaited Mendipathar-Dudhnoi railway line is all ready for formal inauguration.
An official of the NF Railways on Wednesday said that the CRS authorization has come and the track is fit for plying of trains.
The official said that the Ministry of Railways will decide the date for inauguration and there are indications that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the rail line.
A team of officials from the North Eastern Frontier Railways headed by the Kolkata-based Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS) conducted the statutory inspection of the Dudhnoi-Mendipathar railway line recently.
Approved way back in 1992-93, the 19.47 km railway line connects Dudhnoi in the Goalpara district of Assam and Mendhipathar in the state’s North Garo Hills district.
The project has been delayed much beyond its deadline due to the land acquisition problem in the area.
The sanctioned cost of the project was Rs 86.22 crore, but the revised cost touched Rs 144 crore.
The areas which will be covered by the railway line are Nolbari-Deuripara, Boromiapara, Chotomiapara , Mataranga, Manikganj, Horingkata, Bakenang-Tilapara and Mendipathar. There will be a lot of benefits to the people here after the railway station is open for public. First there will be a passenger train that will connect with Guwahati and the rest of the country. Then the goods trains are also in the offing.
