SHILLONG: Meghalaya Bharat Scouts and Guides will host the first-ever Scouts and Guides Education Congress at Pinemount Ridge, near Pine Mount School, Shillong.
According to A. Swer, State Secretary, Meghalaya Bharat Scouts and Guides, the four-day Congress will begin from September 24 and more than 350 Scouts and Guides, mostly young people, along with resource persons on scouting and guiding, are expected to participate in the first-ever education mega event in the country.
Besides participants from the North Eastern region and delegates from other regions of the country, delegates from Asia-Pacific will also attend the congress.
The theme of the Congress is “Scouting and Guiding Education for Life” and the goal is education for life and by empowering the youth, it is powering the nation. Also the aim of the congress is to train more and more the young scouts and guides to attain high degree of scout methods and discipline and how to be well-positioned in the fast changing society.
According to G.G. Pariat, senior Scout member of Meghalaya Bharat Scout and Guide, elaborate arrangements have been made to ensure the success of the first ever Education Congress in this city.
Open air stage: Meghalaya Bharat Scouts and Guides on Wednesday got a much-needed open air stage or open air RCC rostrum which was donated by Honsen Lyngdoh Mawphlang, a National Citizen’s Award recipient.
Inaugurating the open air stage, F.R. Kharkongor, Chief Commissioner of MBSG, lauded Honsen Lyngdoh for his continued public services to society during last many years which cannot be quantified.
He said that Lyngdoh is the most valued senior member of MBSG and has contributed much to the organisation in the past and will continue to do so in the future.
Honsen Lyngdoh, who was present during the brief inauguration function, delivered his speech which was immediately interrupted by the arrival of the Chief Guest, was seen to be happy and contented that he was able to contribute to the MBSG.
“God has raised me up from hunger and starvation to what I am today. I thought it is my duty to give back to Him by helping other,” Lyngdoh said.
