SHLLLONG: ANVC-B chairman Rimpu N Marak on Saturday said that the Centre’s initiative is a must to bring peace to the trouble-torn Garo Hills region.
Pointing out that early settlement of the peace pact and signing of the final accord with both groups of ANVC will restore peace to a considerable extent in Garo Hills, Marak said that the settlement will also instill faith in the people of Garo Hills on the Central Government for its keen interest and initiative in speeding up the pact which has been long pending.
“As a first signatory of the peace pact, we appeal to ANVC leaders to shed away political affiliations which has widened the differences among the leaders and instead unite for lasting peace and growth in Garo Hills,” Marak said
According to Marak, ANVC and ANVC-B ought to stand as one, being part of the pact, as responsibility of the due settlement is a debt to the people.
“Settlement is due in a short time and we are hopeful that it will have a deeper meaning if leaders reconcile against all odds before the final settlement and move towards restoring peace in Garo Hills,” he added.
“The Central Government has acknowledged the aspirations of the people. It is time to put an end to everything and unite for peace. Centre is sure to consider all possibilities in speeding up the pact if there is unity and sincere anticipation for peace,” the ANVC-B leader said while calling upon leaders to unite and work towards a better Garoland.
