Court remands Assam singer in CBI custody

Kolkata: The Alipore court on Saturday ordered a five-day CBI custody of Assam’s folk singer and filmmaker Sadananda Gogoi, a day after his arrest for alleged involvement in the multi-crore Saradha chit fund scam.

Gogoi was arrested by the anti-corruption unit of CBI after being grilled for the 7th time at the central intelligence office at Salt Lake on Friday evening.

Gogoi, accused of taking Rs 4 crore from Saradha chief Sudipta Sen for making an ad film, which was not produced at all, Sen had alleged.

He is the fourth persons arrested by the CBI in the state after East Bengal official Debabrata Sarkar, businessman Sandhir Agarwal, former police chief Rajat Majumder, accused of minted money with chit fund scam.

The Alipore court in the order asked the CBI to take custody of Sadanand Gogoi and produced the singer on September 17. (UNI)
