SHILLONG: Though the Deputy Commissioner of Foods Safety, State Food Safety and Standards Authority, Shillong, has imposed a ban on sale of Guthka and pan masala, the same is far from being implemented in the State, particularly in the city.
It is seen that shopkeepers across the city are openly selling these items in complete violation of the order.
When contacted, Additional District Magistrate, C.V.D. Diengdoh, said that the district administration has conducted raids in several places and these products have been seized. He warned that the district administration will carry out raids throughout the district to ensure that nobody sells these items.
The manufacture, storage and sale of guthka and pan masala containing tobacco and nicotine as ingredients are prohibited in the State under sub section (2) of Section 30 of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.
