AMPATI: Chief Minister Mukul Sangma on Monday launched a mass mobilization programme for training on tailoring and apparel making, organized by the Commerce and Industries department, and also inaugurated security training for the local youth organised by Peregrine Guarding Pvt. Ltd., at Ampati.
The State government has sanctioned a two-month training programme on apparel and garment making, which was conceived by the Chief Minister himself, while training for security personnel is being conducted for 10 days from September 18 for the first batch of 50 youths of the district.
Addressing the gathering on the occasion, the Chief Minister said that every adult person must be productive and contribute to the economy of the State and the country as a whole and observed that among tribal population here, there are number of youths who, even after obtaining degrees and professional certificates, are still waiting for government jobs.
Drawing comparisons between India and Bangladesh, which was once an impoverished country and had made opportunities out of its calamities, Sangma said that Bangladesh now has six million people associated with apparel making and has overtaken India in all spheres of development.
Regarding the security training by Peregrine Guarding, the Chief Minister said, “We have so much of adversities around us, that is why the security agency partners has been brought in to give security training as many of our youth are just sitting idle and after training they will be given the scope as to where they can go and how much salary they expect and based on that, they will decide whether they will go and join or not. We want to ensure that our youth understand the diverse livelihood opportunities that are being given to them”.
He informed that the State Government is tying up with Garment Manufacturers’ Association of India to open garment factories in the State that would require 3000 workforce in each unit.
South West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner Ram Singh, Coordinator for Peregrine Guarding Capt. Anil Kumar, Director, Commerce & Industries, W. Langstang and Functional Manager, DCIC, Tura D.F.R. Marak, also spoke on the occasion.
