SHILLONG: After a lull, the dissidents in the State Congress have become active and are holding parleys among themselves to raise their demand for change of leadership with the AICC once again.

The dissident Congress legislators, however, do not want to come out openly to raise grievances since the AICC have already conveyed to them not to make their issues public.

However, the party sources said that to raise the change of leadership demand, the dissidents are now waiting for the arrival of Congress president Sonia Gandhi, who has gone abroad for health check-up.

Sonia, who is arriving in Delhi on September 18, is likely to effect a major reshuffle in the AICC.

The dissidents are also hoping for the visit of an AICC observer or a new AICC general secretary in charge Meghalaya to discuss the demand for a change of leadership.

There are reports that the AICC may depute either senior leader AK Antony or Janardan Dwivedi as observer to hold consultations with the Congress legislators on the issue of change of leadership.

The current AICC general secretary in charge Northeast including Meghalaya Luizinho Faleiro is likely to go back to his home state Goa as the PCC president.

A Congress leader in the dissident camp said on Monday that the legislators are still unhappy over the style of functioning of the Chief Minister even after the recent CLP meeting convened by Faleiro.

They dissidents believe that it is unlikely that the Chief Minister will change the style of functioning.
