Education Dept official held for taking bribe

SHILLONG: Police on Wednesday arrested an Education Department official after he was caught red handed accepting bribe from a school teacher.

Sub-Divisional School Education Inspector Lufter Rahman was arrested by the special CID team of the police from his office at Mairang in West Khasi Hills after he was caught red handed accepting a bribe of Rs 30,000 from an assistant teacher DMI Mawnai for issuing his transfer order from Nongthymmai Government LP School to Nongbah Bynther Government LP School.

According to CA Lyngwa , Special Superintendent of Police, CID, acting on a complaint lodged by the aggrieved teacher, the CID and police laid a trap and arrested Rahman.

According to Lyngwa, preliminary inquiry indicated that the accused officer was a repeated offender who demanded money for issuing administrative orders for the teachers
