SHILLONG: Six candidates who were selected for the posts of Block Resource Persons in Nongpoh have threatened to go for agitation after they learnt that the Centre had done away with the posts they were hired for.

Addressing a press conference here on Saturday, the six candidates said that the interview for the post was held in January and the results were declared in February but they were yet to receive their appointment letters.

Later, when the candidates along with members of National Khasi Union (NKU) approached the District Mission Coordinator, V Lyngdoh Nonglait, they were informed that the Central Government had done away with the post and had formed a new post of inclusive education workers in its place.

They were also informed that they are not eligible to take part in the recruitment process for the newly created post which requires a B.Ed degree or a Diploma.

The affected candidates and NKU also approached the Ri Bhoi DC on the matter. The DC has sought all reports concerning the matter from the District Mission Coordinator.

The affected students met the District Mission Coordinator for a second time and were handed over a memorandum which stated that only trained teachers as per RTE are eligible for the posts. However, the NKU and candidates doubt the credibility of the memo since it does not have any seal and other details.

The NKU has decided to approach the higher authorities regarding the matter.
