Rains to continue: Weather forecast
The ongoing climatic conditions and heavy rains in the city and elsewhere in the State is likely to continue for a couple of days more, the Regional Metrological Department based in Guwahati has informed.
RMD officials said that rainfall will continue till September 23 and the weather condition is likely to improve slightly from September 24 onwards.
The RMD informed that this prevailing rain is being caused by the low pressure created over the Gangetic Basin in West Bengal, Bihar and Jharkhand.
The most severely affected areas include west Assam, central Assam, Garo Hills region and Cherrapunjee.
Meanwhile, the capital city has been brought to its knees due to the heavy rainfall that has been lashing the State since Friday last.
Instances of water logging have been reported from several parts of the city.
Schools and colleges have been reporting low attendances. Markets are also taking a beating as shoppers chose to remain indoors on Saturday and Sunday and even on Monday, ignoring the fact that Durga Puja is due in ten days. The biggest respite for the city is that there has been no flood in Polo despite the heavy rainfall.
