SHILLONG, July 24: A two-day National Buyer-Seller Meet-cum-Exhibition themed ‘From Heritage to Enterprise: Empowering Women Artisans in Northeast India’ commenced on Friday at the State Convention Centre here.
The event brings together women entrepreneurs, artisans and investors from across the country to expand market access and attract investment for regional crafts.
The initiative is supported by the state government in collaboration with PRIME Meghalaya, the Meghalaya State Skill Development Society (MSSDS) and the Meghalaya Basin Management Agency (MBMA).
Inaugurating the exhibition, Gambegre MLA Mehtab Chandee noted that while the Northeast possesses immense potential, local entrepreneurs must focus more on packaging and production quality.
She stated that these improvements are essential to making regional products competitive in both national and international markets.
The first day included a technical session on ‘Building a Grassroots Startup Ecosystem for Viksit Bharat 2047’, addressed by MBMA Executive Director Saloni Verma.
It may be mentioned that the meet serves as a platform for artisans to exhibit their work and forge long-term business partnerships, helping transition traditional heritage into sustainable commercial enterprises.
