Landslide on NH-44 claims life of KSU member

JOWAI: A landslide at Tongseng in Sunapur area of East Jaintia Hills District which is one of the most landslide-prone areas along NH-44, has claimed the life of one Monlang Khonglah (32) of Khliehriat West on Tuesday morning.

The victim was an active member of the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU).

Sources informed that the KSU member had gone to Barak Valley in Assam to visit his relatives and while returning back to Khliehriat on Tuesday morning he got stuck on the road along with thousands of commuters and hundreds of vehicles due to a massive landslide.

Sources informed that the victim got down from his vehicle and was walking towards the landslide spot when a huge boulder rolled down from the hill and smashed him, killing him on the spot at around 11:30am.
