SHILLONG: The work for the demolition of the Motphran overbridge is finally over.

The only work left now is the removal of the accumulated debris which is expected to be completed in a day or two.

The demolition work, carried out by the Public Works Department (PWD) began on Saturday night.

The decades-old overbridge was demolished after it was declared unsafe for pedestrians and hawkers. The vendors who run stalls selling second-hand clothes on the overbridge were shifted to a nearby parking lot.

Earlier, the PWD had surveyed of the overbridge and had declared it unsafe for pedestrians.
