SHILLONG: Death could not separate them as they died together in sleep when the devastating landslide buried their rented house at Barapathar on the wee hours on Tuesday.

The bodies of Puja Kuri (22), who was pregnant for eight months and her husband Rajesh Kuri (32) were recovered together in the last leg of operations by the recovery team of police and security forces.

While initially six bodies including that of the mother of Rajesh Kuri, Sobita Kuri (65) were recovered, it took more time to recover the bodies of the couple. After the hectic operations, first the husband’s body was recovered followed by the body of his wife.

The relatives said that it was just a few days ago that Puja Kuri met the doctor for medical check- up, while adding that if she was admitted in the hospital, she should have escaped the tragedy.

But then, she would have faced all the more agony of being alive while her near and dear ones are no more.
