SHILLONG: Seven casual employees of the KHADC, who were recently terminated from their services, have knocked the doors of both the KHNAM and the UDP MDCs to take up their case with the Executive Committee (EC) led by Ardent Miller Basaiawmoit.
The terminated employees made this move after Basaiawmoit, during the public meeting on September 19, revealed that he had made some fresh appointments to help some families who had lost their lone bread earners like husbands or fathers who had passed away while still in active service with the District Council. The KHADC CEM made these appointments after terminating the services of the casual employees on July 31.
The sacked employees on Thursday first met UDP Parliamentary Party leader Teinwell Dkhar and Umsning MDC Donkupar Sumer, and later had an audience with KHNAM Parliamentary Party leader Latiplang Kharkongor and Mawkhar MDC James Basaiawmoit.
Both the UDP and KHNAM leaders assured that they would pursue the matter in the right earnest.
Earlier, Umsning MDC Donkupar Sumer (UDP) had expressed surprise over the appointments made by Basaiawmoit despite the prevailing financial crisis in the Council.
Sumer had said that the CEM, who holds the charge of Personnel department, had made these fresh appointments after terminating seven casual employees on the ground that the Council was facing severe financial crunch.
Sumer said that the seven employees who were terminated were getting a fixed salary of Rs 5000 per month.
He, however, observed that the 12 fresh appointments made by the CEM on September 11 would drain the Council of Rs 2 lakh which would be paid as salaries.
