Tourism Day observed in Nongstoin

NONGSTOIN: A food fest and traditional performances by children marked the World Tourism Day observation here on Saturday.

The function organized at the at Nongpyndeng Community Hall here under the theme “Tourism and Community Development” was attended by Extra Assistant Commissioner (EAC), West Khasi Hills MA Challam and Tourism Officer West Khasi Hills District.

Decked in traditional attires to highlight the rich cultural heritage of the District, the children entertained the gathering with traditional dances and songs.

An indigenous food fest was also organized by the Apple Society wherein five stalls showcased mouth-watering delicacies. The food fest showcased some rare food varieties too.

Addressing the gathering, Challam deliberated on how tourism could be conducive to advancing sustainable development from the grassroots.

Besides the traditional dance, local games like Kynthaitpohdun and Sohtyngkoh were also conducted during the function.

The Tourism Day event was organized by the District Tourism department in collaboration with the Apple Society, Nongstoin and the Dorbar Shnong Mawkhlam Nongpyndeng.
