SHILLONG: A new group reportedly going by the name of Phantom Liberation Army (PLA) has demanded ransom from two persons in the last one month, police informed, adding that it has taken note of the matter.

It may be mentioned that the so-called PLA had demanded Rs. 5 lakh from a tea stall owner in Mawryngkneng, following which the lady filed an FIR at Mawryngkneng PS.

On another occasion, a Village Sordar had also been served with a demand note by the PLA.

East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police M. Kharkrang said that police were yet to get details of the people who have been served demand notes by the group.

He, however, clarified that PLA was neither an organized group nor a militant organisation and had been floated by some criminals who were trying to make some quick money.

So far, police have not been able to arrest anyone having any connection with the criminal gang.
