Election of a new KHADC  CEM on October 8

SHILLONG: Congress-led KHUDA in the KHADC will take the decision on fielding candidate for the CEM’s post on Tuesday.

A new CEM in place of Ardent Basaiawmoit, who put in his papers recently, will be elected during the special session of the Council to be held on October 8.

“We have not been able to decide whether to contest or not for the CEM’s post. We will take the final call tomorrow,” KHUDA Parliamentary Party leader Pynshngaiñ N Syiem told newsmen after a meeting of the Alliance here on Monday.

When pointed out that the deadline to file the nomination ends on Tuesday, he said that they would take the decision on time.

It may be mentioned that the candidates will have to file their nomination papers on Tuesday before 12 noon.

The KHUDA leader indicated that the alliance would not field candidate if they fall short of the requisite numbers.

When asked if the any of the MDCs of ARPA has assured his or her support to KHUDA, he said that so far none of the ARPA MDCs had approached them with such an offer.

He said Congress will not shy away from taking the responsibility of leading the EC if the regional parties fail to do justice.

“We know that majority of the people wants ARPA to lead the EC. We also respect the sentiments of the people,” the KHUDA leader added.

Meanwhile, ARPA leader Adelbert Nongrum will be filing his nomination on Tuesday at 10 am.

Out of the total 29 MDCs, ARPA has the support of 17 MDCs including HSPDP (6), UDP (6) KHNAM (4) and Kharpuri while the Congress-led alliance has the support of 12 MDCs including Congress (10), Mawhati independent MDC James Sylliang and Laban-Mawprem NCP MDC Sanbor Shullai.
