NEWDELHI: AICC General Secretary in-charge Meghalaya and known to be the strong man in North East Congress politics Luizinho Faleiro was on Tuesday night appointed as Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) President of his home state Goa, a post he had held earlier too.
“The party president Sonia Gandhi has appointed Luizinho Faleiro as PCC President of Goa with immediate effect,” senior Congress leader Janardan Dwivedi told reporters.
Faleiro’s appointment as Goa Congress chief has come as a good news for the ‘dissidents’ of Meghalaya Congress.
Meghalaya Congress dissidents, who have been demanding a change of guard in the state, have been hoping that a new AICC leader will be made in charge of Meghalaya in place of ‘partial’ Faleiro
Though Faleiro had addressed a CLP meeting to douse the dissident activities, the dissident Congress legislators wanted the AICC to depute a senior Congress leader to discuss the demand for change of leadership.
Faleiro had played a big role for nearly a decade in the mercurial politics of Meghalaya going through many ups and downs. He had left the charge of the state once only to come back again after some gap.
Party sources said that he was sent to Goa as PCC President to revive his nearly collapsed party in the coastal state. Incidentally, Faleiro had visited all the seven North East states where he is in charge including Meghalaya after the Lok Sabha poll debacle of the party.
