TURA: The recent floods which devastated most parts of Garo Hills leading to loss of many lives as well as rendering many a family homeless has also left behind a permanent wonder of nature in the form of a magnificent waterfalls in Babukhona locality under Resubelpara Municipal Board in North Garo Hills.
A silver lining emerged out of the calamity as flood waters completely changed the course of the Kon’na Chiring (winding stream) in Resubelpara and formed the forked waterfall meeting in a deep pool below.
The newly formed waterfall and pool is surrounded by lush green forests on both sides making it an ideal recreational spot for those who want to experience nature at its best. The newly formed waterfall has been christened ‘Chitimtim Dare’ by locals.
With an aim to preserve the natural wonder, the All Garo Hills People’s Forum (AGHPF), a newly formed NGO of North Garo Hills has taken it upon itself to apprise the District’s Deputy Commissioner about the natural formation so that proper steps can be taken to transform the spot into a natural tourist attraction.
The forum recently met Maxwell D Sangma, a resident of Upper Babukhona, on whose land the waterfalla is located and discussed the issue of preservation of the natural formation. Later, Sangma decided to donate the portion of the land where the falls has appeared. Meanwhile, the AGHPF has also made an appeal to all visitors to the site to refrain from throwing wine bottles or engaging in inappropriate celebrations.
“We will try to transform it into one of the best tourist spots in the district,” it said.
