SHILLONG: An 18-year-old mentally deranged girl from a village in Ri Bhoi was allegedly raped by a 22-year-old man from the same village recently.

The accused has been identified as Iustanser Kharkrang.

According to the FIR lodged with Umiam police station, the girl became pregnant due to frequent rape and it was only after a few months that the victim told the mother about the incident.

As per the FIR filed by CSWO president Agnes Kharshiing, when the mother confronted the accused, he threatened the family with dire consequences. Due to the fear arising out of the threat, the mother did not report the matter to the police since she had a large family of 10 children.

Later, the girl was admitted at Ganesh Das Hopsital where she delivered a still born baby girl after she was operated upon.

Kharshiing, in her FIR, said that the culprit should be immediately booked and the body of the still born baby should be examined for DNA test.
