GSU raises developmental issues
TURA: The Garo Students’ Union (GSU), Baghmara Unit, has once again submitted a reminder of its memorandum to Meghalaya Chief Minister Mukul Sangma regarding various developmental issues including the immediate appointment of a Deputy Commissioner in South Garo Hills for which an ultimatum of 15 days was also served.
On the same day several other important memorandums were also served to the heads of different departments including the Principal Secretary of Higher & Technical Education with regard to the development of the Captain Williamson Memorial Government College, Baghmara, the Commissioner of Transport regarding the dual function being held by the concerned MVI both at Baghmara and Ampati and to the Chief Secretary, among others, with regard to other important issues.
During their meeting with the Chief Secretary in his chamber, the Union raised the issue regarding the setting up of a MeECL Division at Baghmara.
The Chief Secretary while acknowledging the problems and sufferings of the people assured that the government was doing all it can to upgrade the Electricity Unit in the whole of Meghalaya as well as in South Garo Hills District. He said that there was every probability that the division could be set up in Baghmara going by the rate at which efforts were being made by the government.
Meanwhile, the Union also met Parliamentary Secretary in charge PWD, Cherak W Momin, and apprised him about the deplorable road conditions all along National Highway 62. The Minister agreed to look into the matter immediately so as to minimize the problems being faced by the people.
