Grace Mary withholds resignation letter
SHILLONG: Giving yet another twist to the ongoing political unrest in the KHADC, CEM Adelbert Nongrum has decided to buy some more time before inducting another member from the HSPDP as an Executive Member (EM) in the new Executive Committee (EC).
“I have requested the HSPDP to wait till the end of the upcoming Session of the Council. Once the session is over, I will induct an MDC from the HSPDP in the EC,” Nongrum said while talking to newsmen here on Thursday.
The CEM said that he had a meeting with HSPDP supremo Hoping Stone Lyngdoh and its Parliamentary Party (PP) leader KP Pangngiang on Thursday in this connection.
“The HSPDP president had requested me that I should forward the fresh list to the Governor by tomorrow. I have requested him to allow me to apply my mind and take an appropriate decision,” Nongrum said.
Meanwhile, HSPDP in a letter addressed to CEM said two EMs of the party will not accept any portfolio till another party MDC is inducted in the EC.
Nongrum said that he was also in favour that the EMs of the previous EC should continue till the end of the session.
“I feel that they will be in a better position to prepare for the upcoming session,” he said.
When ask about the fate of Nongshken independent MDC Grace Mary Kharpuri, Nongrum said, “It is my prerogative as the CEM to ensure that she is accommodated in a good position.”
“You may never know that she might retain her place as EM in the EC,” the KHADC CEM said.
“She (Kharpuri) came to me with the intention to submit her resignation letter. The Nongshkhen independent MDC finally agreed not to submit the resignation letter after I requested her to give me some time to take stock of the whole situation,” Nongrum informed.
