Kohima:World-wide migratory birds Amur Falcon, which have migrated from Mongolia and are presently sojourning in many districts of Nagaland, are well guarded in their roosting places.
Nagaland Principal Chief Conservator of Forest and Chief of Forest Forces M Lokeswar Rao told UNI that over a million Amur Falcons have already arrived in Nagaland and are roosting in various districts.
Another flock of same capacity is already on way to Nagaland from Mongolia.
He also informed that of three satellite-tagged Amur Falcons– Naga, Pangti and Wokha, which were tagged by a group of international ornithologists in Nagaland–there was no information of Naga. But Pangti and Wokha are still on satellite track. They are on their way to Nagaland from Mongolia.
He said due to good awareness programme, citizens are enthusiastic for preservation of the feathered visitors during their one and half month stay in Nagaland and give them safe passage to South Africa.
Mr Rao also informed that Nagaland bagged another award for protection and safe passage of Amur Falcon from a Guwahati-based organisation the ‘Balipara Foundation Award’.(UNI)
