Foundation stone laid for Jaiaw-Mawlai bridge

SHILLONG: Home Minister Roshan Warjri on Saturday laid the foundation stone for a bridge to connect Jaiaw and Mawlai over Wahumkhrah river at Jaiaw Laitdom.
Once completed, the 18 m long bridge will connect Jaiaw Umpohliew to Mawlai Phudmuri and other localities of the area. An amount of Rs 1.20 crore has been earmarked for the project.
Later, the Home Minister also inaugurated the blacktopped link road from Jaiaw Laitdom constructed at a cost of Rs 12 lakh.
Addressing the gathering, Warjri lauded the headmen and the secretaries of the localities for their joint efforts in making the road project fruitful. She expressed hope that the bridge will also be beneficial to the people of the area.
The Home Minister also urged  the people of Jaiaw Dorbar to cooperate with the Government for smooth implementation of the various development schemes in the state.
CEO, Shillong Municipal Board, E. Kharmalki, Chief Engineer, PWD Roads, L. Passah and respective headmen of the areas were also present on the occasion.
