Suspected chain snatcher arrested

SHILLONG: Police on Saturday arrested a suspected chain snatcher following a complaint lodged by a woman whose gold chain was snatched near Sericulture Farm, Madan Laban by miscreants travelling in a vehicle.
The accused has been identified as Chandra Prakash Sharma (Mithu, 36) of Punjabi Line.
According to East Khasi Hills SP, M Kharkrang the gold chain of one Banani Bhattacharjee of Jackson Trace Road, Rilbong was snatched at around 8 am, when the victim was on a morning walk, by miscreants travelling in a white Santro.
The victim could only give the name and colour of the vehicle which had an Assam registration plate.
On receiving the information, all police units were alerted and check posts were put up in different parts of the city. Later a police team led by sub-inspector P Barman of Laitumkhrah police station along with BSF personnel intercepted the vehicle at Dhankheti and arrested the accused.
