Meghalaya climbers to attend mountaineering course

SHILLONG: The Meghalaya Rock Climbing and Mountaineering Association (MeRCMA) informed that two groups of climbers were nominated by the Association to attend the Advance Mountaineering Course and Methods of Instruction (MOI) in Himalayan Mountaineering Institute, Darjeeling and Nehru Institute of Mountaineering, Uttarkashi respectively. While the Advance Course commenced from October 17, MOI course is from October 19 to November 8. The following are the names of climbers who are participating in the courses:

Advance Mountaineering Course at Darjeeling:

Roiwanki Suchiang (Shangpung). Enifer Rowena Nongkynrih ( from Lady Keane College) and Kayleigh Petra Nongkynrih (from Synod College)

MOI Course : Hokson Lyngdoh ( from Upper Lumparing) and Ngandarihun Sohshang (from Mawprem). Moreover, the Association has selected 11 climbers and preparing to participate in the 16th North East Zone Sports Climbing Championship to be held at Guwahati in November.

Li Na denies tennis comeback

Singapore: Recently-retired Li Na of China Sunday ruled out returning to the tennis circuit. “I’m already 32. I have to take care of my family right now because over the last 32 years I was trying as hard as I can on the tennis court. I am not going to comeback to tennis,” Li was quoted as saying by Xinhua. Li, an official ambassador for the WTA World Tour Finals, made the remarks here along with the eight players who will be competing for the year-ending tournament Oct 17-26. Talking about her post-retirement life, Li said she feels “pretty nice” about having no schedule, adding that the biggest surprise she had during the last month was the Golden Week, a seven-day holiday in celebration of the Chinese National Day. “I stayed home for the National Day holiday. I don’t have to work or see my schedule,” the 2011 French Open champion said. But Li’s schedule here is packed with multiple activities.Li, who won the 2014 Australian Open, will also be at the opening ceremony of the main tournament Monday(IANS)

Durand Cup qualifier from today

Panaji: The qualifier round matches for the preliminary stage of 127th edition of Durand Cup Football Tournament will get underway on Monday in Goa, in which 16 teams will participate and only top three teams will qualify for quarter final stage. On the opening day on Monday, in the qualifier round group B Youngters Club of Chandigardh will clash against All India Football Federation (AIFF) in the morning at 0900 hours and Corps of Signals will take on Goa Velha Sports in the evening at 1500 hours at Signals Sports Complex, Navelim Military ground in south Goa. The 16 teams include Santa Cruz Club of Cavelossim, Sesa Football Academy, Tuff Laximi Prasad Sports Club, Goa Velha Sports Club, Indian Air Force,Dalbir Football Academy, Southern Samity, Army Green, Garwal Rifles, Corps of Singals, BEG Centre, All India Football Federation, Youngsters Club Chandigardh, Oil India Ltd, Vasco Sports Club and Army Red team. Among the 16 teams, three top teams will qualify for quarter final stage. They will play against already nine directly seeded quarter final teams Bengaluru FC, Air India, Salgaocar FC, Sporting Club de Goa, Pune FC, United Sports Club, Churchill Brothers SC, Mohammedan Sporting Club and the Indian Navy in the quarter finals from October 29. The finals will be played on November eight.(UNI)
