SHILLONG: The Platinum Jubilee celebration of St. Dominic Savio Church, Mawlai Parish, which was launched on October 27, 2013, will draw to a close on October 26.
The year-long observance supported by various programmes involving social, cultural, spiritual and choral activities, had proved successful besides becoming meaningful for the beneficiaries, who drew much inspirations as the end results.
The grand finale of the Platinum Jubilee will begin with a Holy Mass at 9:30 am followed by the unfurling of the jubilee flag and other entertainment functions at 1 pm.
Since St. Dominic Savio Church is a Salesian Parish it is expected that it will join the Salesian community to observe the bicentennial birth anniversary of St. John Bosco, concluding in August 2015.
Other happenings simultaneous with the platinum Jubilee were the commemoration of 40th foundation of Mawlai Parish Catholic Youth Association and inauguration of one-year observance of the Platinum Jubilee by the Mawlai Parish Catholic Women Association, ending in the coming year.
The archdiocesan level Catholic Youth League (CYL) also held its golden jubilee convention at Mawlai Parish, ultimately winding up its activities and gave way to the Indian Catholic Youth Movement (ICYM). Historically coincidental, the last Congress in 1969 and Youth Retreat in 1970 of Diocesan Presidency (DP), the predecessor of CYL, also called their day at Mawlai Parish.
It may be mentioned here that both the DP and CYL were formed by the humble efforts of lay people, to suit the need and conditions of that time; whereas ICYM was sponsored by the authoritative CBCI, New Delhi.
The Catholic Women of Mawlai Parish took part in the 50th anniversary of Indian Catholic Women Council at the Cathedral Parish, Laitumkhrah. The event also coincided with the special visitation of Our Lady of the Nations, to some selected centres of the Shillong Archdiocese and its Sufragans.
