Brothers from Assam re-unite in Kochi after 10 years

Kochi:In a reunion after 10 years, two brothers, who left their home state Assam separately in search of a job and landed in Kerala, met each other here recently. When the elder brother Deepak managed to get a job as a worker at the Kochi metro construction site, his aim was to keep searching for his younger sibling Sanjay, who had left Guwahati in 2005 as a 11-year-old and there was no news about him after that. Sanjay had been brought to Kerala along with other some other children by an agent to work as child labourer. He worked for a year at a chicken stall at nearby Edapally where he used to do odd jobs. Though he was given food, there was no salary. With police launching stringent action against those employing children, Sanjay failed to get a job anywhere. He managed to get shelter at the nearby Janseva orphanage, completed his 10th standard and did a course in hotel management and is presently employed as a Assistant chef in a hotel here. Deepak continued his search for his brother which brought him to the orphanage. When he informed the orphanage authorities about Sanjay, they immediately contacted him. When the two met, they recognised each other, hugged and wept, orphanage authorities said. The brothers said they would soon be leaving for their home together to meet their parents and other siblings.(PTI)

JMB trains Assamese men to carry out attacks: Assam DG

Guwahati: Assamese youths have undergone a training under the Islamic terror network Jamatul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) to carry out attacks, Director General of Police (DGP) Khagen Sarma said Tuesday. “We have received information against some youths who have been visiting Bangladesh for getting the training under the Islamic terror networks such as the JMB to carry out terror attacks,” he told reporters while attending a function organised to observe the Police Commemoration Day at the 4th Assam Police battalion at Kahilipara area. The DGP’s statement assumes significance as the All India United Democratic Front had slammed the Assam government recently after the arrest of six people for their alleged links with the JMB and the recent blast in Burdwan in West Bengal. “We were criticised when we arrested 24 people in a day in 1994 for having links with the Islamic terror network. Most of them had confessed their links with the network. Some of them had even confessed their links with the HuJI and Harkatul Mujahideen,” said Sarma. “Some of those arrested recently from Assam’s Barpeta district have been under surveillance for a long time. However, we did not have any evidence against them. Now police have arrested them as they have the evidence against them,” he said. (IANS)
