State Police salutes its martyrs

SHILLONG: The State Police paid glowing tributes to police martyrs who laid down their lives while performing their duties on the occasion of Police Commemoration Day at Police Reserve here on Tuesday.

As many as nine policemen from Meghalaya and 662 from across the country laid down their lives in service to the nation between September 1, 2013 and August 31, 2014.

The nine police personnel from the State who lost their lives in the past one year include Dondiram Marak, Enderson Daimary, Bipul Rabha, Marshangstar Nongdhar, Rakhi CH Sangma, Lekynchyne Ryngkhlem, Alphaious Khymdeit, Rahul R Marak and Lembartu Suchiang.

Speaking on the occasion, DGP PJP Hanaman said that the nation has lost a large number of brave martyrs belonging to the different paramilitary forces that have made supreme sacrifices on the line of duties.

“The State Police has lost nine of its men while fighting militancy especially in Garo Hills,” Hanaman said adding that since 1961, more than 32,000 police personnel have sacrificed their lives for the security of the nation.
