SHILLONG: The people of Langkyrdem-Pynursla constituency have formed the BB Lyngdoh Memorial Committee to cherish the contributions of the former Chief Minister who represented the constituency for five consecutive terms from 1978 till 2003.

Late Lyngdoh, who was popularly known as ‘Bah Bring”, was the architect of the MLA scheme and is also called the founder of coalition politics in India.

In 1979, Lyngdoh and Late DD Pugh decided to share the chief minister’s seat for a two and a half year term each.

“We have formed this committee since we like to cherish the contributions of the former Chief Minister. We feel that people have started to forget the contributions of this great political stalwart,” committee convener Kular Khongjirem told newsmen here on Wednesday.

He said that it is really sad to see the political leaders of the present generation lacking the quality and personality of the former chief minister.

“He (Lyngdoh) had proved himself both as a statesman and as a politician,” Khongjirem said.

He also informed that the committee will organize a memorial lecture in memory of the former Chief Minister on October 25 at Dinam Hall, Jaiaw.

The guest speakers of the memorial lecture will include former chief minister DD Lapang, former deputy chief minister Bindo Mathew Lanong among others.
